Greg Cooper Spencer, a profoundly talented men’s groomer, with significant experience as a hair and wig stylist has been responsible for designing and effecting memorable aesthetic statements and continuity. As a result, he has had the privilege of working with some of the entertainment industry’s most notable directors such as Benny Safdie, Josh Safdie, Jeremiah Zagar, Michael Greif, George C. Wolfe, Savion Glover and Kenny Leon, as well as celebrated film and stage performers including Robert Dinero, Adam Sandler,Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Bacon, Tyler the Creator, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, Alicia Keys, Audra McDonald, and Alicia Silverstone.
Born and raised in Ohio, Greg studied at the Cincinnati School of Hair Design and The Paul Mitchell School, then continued his education with Design Essentials. His career began as a men’s groomer in the upscale unisex salon, The Studio. There, he mastered men’s grooming while managing operations of the business and creating a name for himself, building a clientele to include Olympic Silver Medalist David Payne, Spectrum One News Anchor Curtis Jackson, NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals players Jermaine Gresham, and Jason Allen. AsGreg’s education and experience grew, so did his enthusiasm for hair and beauty. In 2014, Greg decided to take his skill set, along with an unwavering commitment to innovation in the hair and make-up industry, and relocate to New York City.
Greg wasted no time transitioning to the Broadway arena, where his period styling with women’s wigs has become the subject of admiration. His accolades include having been a hairstylist for New York City Center’s production of “Pal Joey,” and “The Life and Times ofMalcolm X” at The MET, The Soul Train Musical, “The Hippest Trip,” at theAmerican Conservatory of Music as well as “Hercules” at the PaperMill Playhouse where he oversaw total hair continuity for the show’s run.
In the film and television industry Greg has worked with some of the top production companies including Warner Bros., HBOMax, Netflix, and CBS. Despite a heavy entertainment production schedule, Greg has worked with an increasing number of high-profile private male clients including Jaleel White, Eric André and Jerry Mitchell, while garnering the attention of a number of female celebrities and entertainers, some of whom he introduced to color services, who admired his attention to detail, precision cutting skills, and hair coloring methods.
Fashion is Greg’s way of staying in step with culture and trends. He has styled hair for the MET GALA and New York Fashion Week. Additionally, his hairstyling has been published in Harper’s Bazaar,Vogue, Esquire, Marie Claire, Ebony, and Vanity Fair.
Moreover, Greg actively contributes to severalcharitable organizations, principally GLAAD and Broadway Cares.
